Finally making it back to where they were before, Max seen that Ezra didn’t make it back yet. He hoped he was alright, worry setting into his mind that Ezra got caught and into trouble. Part of him wanted to get up and find him, but judgement for him to wait won over.

Sitting down on the ground, he leaned against a tree and waiting. He started laughing to himself quietly and shoved his face into the pillows he was holding. He couldn’t stop the wide grin on his face at the not so long ago memory  He knew he was being careless with this, but of course, he didn’t care. He didn’t expect to meet someone so fast, to feel the way he did so quickly. He could hear his Momma’s voice in his head chastising him for his actions for not being cautious, even though she had no room to talk considering she conceived him at 17.

I Love You’. The words rolled around in his mind, a mix of love, care, protectiveness and things he just couldn’t even describe filled him for Ezra. He could get used to receiving and giving those words.

Sitting there for a while consumed in his thoughts, he was brought back out by the sound of soft rustling. Quickly Max’s eye found the source; Ezra coming back. Getting up, grabbing the set down objects with him he dusted the leaves from pants and headed in the direction of Ezra… well, where he was.

An eyebrow rising once he seen Ezra coming out from behind a tree. “I’m so sorry” Max gushed nervously, pulling Ezra into a hug. He didn’t mean to upset Ezra. He was kinda hiding, wasn’t he? He should of stood where Ezra could of seen him.

Cupping Ezra’s face, locking eyes, “Hey, even if you were caught. Think of any way to put the blame on me, Okay? You don’t deserve to be punished for how you feel, I could deal with it, but you don’t need that” Max made clear. He’d feel like a grade-A asshole if something were to happen to Ezra.

Max cleared his head of negative thoughts as he placed a captivating kiss on Ezra’s soft lips. “So, are you ready?”

With a big grin Ezra replied “More than ever.” He eased his hand into Max’s as they walked deep into woods. Ezra was relieved when they finally reached the spot they would be spending the night in. He grabbed the blankets and started laying them out. He noticed Max was watching him as if it was the last time they would see each other. “Take a picture it lasts longer” He said jokingly. He laughed as Max scrunched up his face.

The two love struck boys sat in silence after everything was sat up.  Ezra wondered what was running through the mind of his lover. He wondered if they were pleasant or if he was worried about getting caught. In the silence Ezra started thinking about his real father. He never knew why he thought of his real father. Ezra suspected he thought of him because he wondered what life would be like if he hadn’t died.

“You know, I think about my real Dad a lot.” He said suddenly not being able to hold his thoughts in any longer. “I don’t really know why, I mean I don’t really remember him but I just wonder what my life would be like if he hadn’t died. I wonder if things would be different or if by some cruel twist they would be same.” He looked at Max hoping that he would know all the answers.

Then it occurred to Ezra, that if his father hadn’t died that he wouldn’t have never met Max. The thought of never meeting Max pained him. Tears stinging his eyes as he looked at Max. Max was everything he wanted.

“However, there always a silver lining”.He said smiling. ” That silver lining is you Max. You’ve given me all the love I could ever dream of and more in the short time we’ve known each other. I just really hope that doesn’t change when we leave here. I know you’re going to college and you have plans and I’m just some battered 17 year old dreamer but I just hope that nothing between us will change.”

He scooted closer to Max, staring deeply into the other boys tear stained eyes. He started to kiss Max gently. Caressing his face as he did. Ezra suddenly felt angry with himself. He always let’s his thoughts get the best of him. Looking away from Max he said “I’m sorry Max, I just get lost in my thoughts.”

Max felt giddy, something he realized and accepted when he was around Ezra. He’s felt giddy about things before, like before games when he would get the team hyped up, but this was a different kind of excitement and Max knew that.

“I will, you too, ‘kay? I’ll go nuts if something happens to you” Enveloping Ezra in his arms, he didn’t want to let go, but he knew he had to. Going to walk away Max felt something snag his wrist. His stomach and head swirled and whirled as he heard Ezra utter 3 precious words, sealing them with a kiss.

Finally pulling back from the kiss, catching his breath, he said in a love-struck daze “I love you, too”. They stood there for a couple moments wrapped up in each other, giving each other playful pecks here and there as they gazed at each-other, enjoying the moment.

“We better get going now” Max chuckled, letting go once again “Good luck”. Finally on their separate ways to their respective camp. Reaching the cabin, Max walked in and took a breather from his running. Looking around the cabin he found it to be surprisingly empty… well, almost surprising. There were things, or perhaps people, to do around the camps.

Hoping no one would come in, Max packed up what he needed for comfort and warmth, also including some snacks that he had in a drawer since they missed dinner. Once packed up he slung the straps of the backpack onto his shoulders, he hoped no one would think he ran away or something and go looking for him.

Peaking his head out of the door, he headed back out, he found no one out there still. But it was getting darker by the moment and he wanted to get where they were while he could still see and remember it properly.

Much to Ezra’s surprise his cabin was empty. Of course his cabin mates were hardly around anyways. He quitely grabbed the things he would need for the night like blankets, pillows, snacks and his iPod and cell phone. He hoped no one noticed he was missing and called for help.

Ezra was still reeling from his confession. He did love Max, he loved Max a lot. Max was the only good he had ever known. To hear Max say those words back made Ezra float. He was sure that Max had meant it as much as he did. Ezra dreaded the day they had to leave, leaving meant going back to the hell hole of a home. Leaving meant going back to the pathetic excuses of parents that he had. For now Ezra pushed those thoughts out of his head and left.

He walked slow so that he would make less noise as possible. He was almost back to the spot he and Max would be staying when he heard a crackle of what sounded like leaves be stepped on. He swiftly jumped behind a tree, mostly to calm his nerves and racing heart and to make sure it was Max. Finally he peeked from behind the tree and saw the tall, athletic figure of Max. Ezra smiled and started off towards Max, half jogging and half walking.

“You gave me a good scared Max, I thought for sure I was caught!” He said trying to sound angry. But instead he sounded panic stricken
